Teacher teams research goes international

Teachers have a major influence on the quality of education and the study success of their students. Nevertheless, the question of whether, and under what conditions, teacher teams function properly, is not always addressed.

During the U!REKA congress at Edinburgh Napier University in 2016, Daniel van Middelkoop and Peter Horsselenberg presented their research called “Experimental learning labs: improving teacher teams agency”.

Their research focuses on the agency of teacher teams within Dutch universities of applied sciences. This presentation led to a cooperation between Edinburgh Napier University’s researchers and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS), while other consortium partners also showed interest.

Working apart together

Daniel van Middelkoop became a professor in team professionalisation at the AUAS in the meantime. Daniel and Peter also presented their work at the 2018 U!REKA conference in Frankfurt. This presentation, called “Working apart together: the influence of a professional reflective dialogue on the agency of teacher teams” informed the audience about the latest developments of the project.

Furthermore, a possible agreement to extend the research from within U!REKA to partners in Germany, Belgium and Finland was discussed. The team experienced that the U!REKA partnership is a great platform for sharing research and working on new collaborations.

Meanwhile, the AUAS has established an agreement with the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences (Frankfurt UAS). From February through December 2019, the AUAS will provide support to a team at Frankfurt UAS, assisting them with team professionalisation.
