Edinburgh Napier University Description.

Edinburgh Napier is an ambitious and innovative university with strong links to industry. We create and support personalised learning opportunities to develop talent and solutions that really matter while delivering local research with global impact. We are double award winners of the prestigious Queen’s Anniversary Prize which recognises the University for its internationally acclaimed research.

With around 19,500 students from more than 130 countries, we are one of Scotland’s largest universities. We are also the largest UK provider of higher education in Hong Kong and have further transnational education partnerships in China, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore and Switzerland.

At Edinburgh Napier, our research informs teaching and impacts business and society. Our researchers are working towards solutions to today’s most challenging problems across a wide range of areas:

We have three encompassing themes that provide a strategic context for cross-university activity and interdisciplinary research in areas of strength and external relevance.

  • Information society : This interdisciplinary theme brings together our cutting-edge research into big data, analytics, visualisation and cyber-crime to shape the digital future, connecting our expertise in the arts, creative industries, technology, life science and engineering.
  • Wellbeing : We're focusing on the health and care of our communities, shaping health and social welfare policy, driving innovation and promoting social justice.
  • Sustainable communities : We're working to promote environmental and economic sustainability, linking work across the University in transport and sustainable construction, environmental sciences, tourism and hospitality.

  • 95% graduate employability rate: Our graduates are highly valued by employers, which is why 95% find work or further study with six months of graduating.
  • Top for nurturing student talent: The Guardian University Guide 2017, which compares entry requirements with final degree awards, ranks Edinburgh Napier University top in the UK for adding value to students.
  • Ranked in the world top 5%: the Times Higher Education World University Rankings puts us in the top 5% of universities while the prestigious QS Stars awarded us five stars for employability, teaching and internationalisation.
  • Strong links with industry: Our strong links with industry mean work-related learning for the majority of our students, from internships and work shadowing to live projects and experiences abroad.

Edinburgh Napier University has well established links with several of the Consortium partners, particularly around student and staff mobility. Example includes Erasmus agreements with Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences, and Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences across a range of topics such as business, law, journalism, product design and computer systems and networks.
